At Ten Stories, we’re not afraid, but instead cautiously optimistic. Film and video production, along with many art forms, have always evolved alongside advancing technology. The shift from 35mm film to high-definition digital sensors. Physical tape and film splicing replaced by non-linear editing software. Aerial helicopter shots, easily bested by precision drones. And now it’s AI. The tools of machine learning aren’t going away, so why resist them completely? Instead, we take a thoughtful approach to studying, experimenting and applying AI so that we understand where the industry is heading, ensuring we (and our clients) don’t get left behind.

We strongly disagree with using AI just for the hell of it. We don’t believe in mindlessly pumping out content that reduces artistry to incomprehensible slop. Our goal has been and always will be visual storytelling that truly resonates with viewers. As far as we can tell, creative AI tools are not anywhere close to replacing the visceral experience of watching an amazing actor or hearing a stirring piece of music. Instead, much like the advancements mentioned above, AI is here to compliment our capabilities; streamlining here, augmenting there, but never replacing a process or a person.

Many of the stories we tell depict people and products with specific context. The ideas may be relatively simple at their foundation, but under most circumstances we choose not to use AI to replace a living, breathing actor, let alone multiple actors. If we do, it’s in a very minor way, like tertiary characters or extras in a scene. Currently, it’s not worth the time, budget and effort to depict consistent, expressive characters. If a client is interested in deploying AI tools, we make it clear: actors are preferrable, but we can use AI to bolster the pre-production and post-production pipeline. From pitching ideas and creating storyboards, to generative AI backgrounds and special effects. The boundary to experiment is reduced compared to legacy workflows, so it’s also an effective way to iterate and visualize new ideas. This recent commercial piece we produced for Qualcomm Snapdragon is a prime example. Except for the main actors, their devices and certain 2D graphics, every visual element was produced with generative AI tools.

One of the ways we find AI genuinely impressive is in the creation of one-off, supporting visuals; the kind of elements you could find to supplement your video project, but only after sifting through stock asset websites and paying exorbitant fees to license. Depending on the needs of the client, we can confidently create much more customized visuals with a consistent look and feel. To prove this, we developed a spec advertisement for US-based chip maker GlobalFoundries. As opposed to something that looks pieced together from disparate stock clips, we created a commercialesque montage of imagery that captures the big picture capabilities of a company like GF. Aside from the script, music and closing brand animation, this entire video consists of AI-generated assets, including the voiceover.

Great video starts with real people, real performances, and real environments — that's never changing. What has changed is how fast and far that footage can go once it reaches post-production.

Full control over setting. Whether it's swapping a backdrop, adjusting lighting and time of day after the fact, or placing talent in an environment that would be costly or impossible to shoot in person, AI-assisted tools give us flexibility over the final look without compromising the authenticity of a real on-camera performance.

More versions from one shoot. A single day of filming can be repurposed into multiple cuts: a 30-second ad, a 15-second social teaser, a vertical version for Stories and Reels, even localized versions with AI-assisted captioning or translation, without re-shooting or rebooking locations.

Lower cost without cutting corners. Automating repetitive technical work (transcription, rough assembly, format conversions) frees our editors to spend their time on the creative decisions, the timing, the story, the performance, that actually make a video memorable.
